How I love coffee!

But in moderation. I am aware that it can be addictive and too much of anything is dangerous. We learn, right?

Some of the people I have met in my travels also love coffee. They probably fancy it more than I do so I asked them for their thoughts and ideas.

Julie Kim, a coffee lover, hails from South Korea and dreams to set up her own café. She once told me that most of the coffee shops in Seoul are too expensive but don’t meet her expectations. This girl must have a taste for “high-quality”! Olia is an incredible generous Russian who speaks Spanish and whom I had coffee with in Mexico City. On her recent trip to Seoul, she explored different unique cafes. Pictures are taken from her Instagram profile OLIAARKADIEVA.

So here are a few of their suggestions and I hope you get to visit these places when you go to Seoul, South Korea.

CAFÉ ONION

Location:
8 Achasan-ro 9-gil, Seongsu-dong 2ga, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Seongsu Station Line 2, Exit 2)
Tel: +82 70 7816 2710
Opening Hours: 8:00am — 10:00pm (Mon — Fri), 10:00am — 10:00pm (Sat — Sun)

They also have another branch in 55. SOLME-RO 50-GIL. GANGBUK-GU. SEOUL and it’s open every day from 10 am to 10 pm.

Seongsu-dong was an area solely for factories. Recently, young artists and designers converted these factories into cafés and restaurants and gave it a new name “Brooklyn in Seoul”. The building of Café Onion was built in 1970s and was used as a factory for metal products. Café Onion opened there in September 2016 but instead of renovating it, the owners decided to preserve most of what was left of the building so customers can enjoy its original character.

The cakes and sandwiches are something worth trying. Everything is delicious, especially the coffee. Unlike many coffee shops, Café Onion doesn’t play any music. Two buildings are connected and share a garden giving its customers an impression of an industrial minimalist maze.

There are roof tops where one can enjoy the orange hues of the sky during sunset and the gorgeous view of Seongsu dong with warm sunshine in spring and fall.

RACCOON CAFÉ Location: 358–2 Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Phone: +82 70–7612–5888

The novelty of drinking coffee in the presence of raccoons is possible only in Seoul. There is an on-going controversy, however, as to whether coffee shops are indeed a safe environment for these mischievous creatures. I have read negative reviews about animal-themed cafés but for the purpose of exposing “uniquely themed-coffee shops”, this made it in the list.

THANKS NATURE CAFÉ /SHEEP CAFÉ

Location: 486 Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Phone: +82 2–332–7470

Definitely something different. This café is located close to the Hongik University’ and Hondae where most young and trendy Koreans can be found. Two fluffy sheep await you in this unique coffee shop. They fight and make up. Isn’t that something unique to witness? The easiest way to get there is to take a train to Hongik University Subway Station (Line 2) and come out from the train at exit 9. Take a left turn and go to the main gate of the Hongik University and find your way to the end of the arcade.

BLüTE FLOWER CAFÉ

Address: 12 Wausan-ro 14-gil, Seogang-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Phone: +82 2–798–1995

Blüte Flower Café is an elegant coffee shop that showcases classical music, many colourful, real flowers, green plants and incredibly delicious desserts and coffee. If you’re looking for a really romantic and relaxing place in Seoul, this is a great choice. You’d definitely stay longer than planned and there’s a big chance you’ll get a YES to you romantic proposal.

POOP CAFÉ

Location: 44, Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu | 4th floor of Ssamzigil mall, Seoul 03146, South Korea

Phone: +82 2–722–1088

What a way to drink coffee! Despite the delicious taste of coffee in your cup, you will also find hidden poop treasures around you. Toilets are converted into flower pots and mini gardens and you will most likely find a poop-shaped cocoa or chocolate floating in your coffee, too!

Whatever your reason is for travelling to Seoul South Korea, I hope these cool cafés help you sort your plans out! I don’t mind if you share it.

Have a safe and fun trip!
